Navigating a Delicate Balance When ‘The Helper’ Experiences Life Crisis

Personal tragedies and major life changes affect everyone, even “helpers”. Victim Service (and other helping) professionals must delicately balance professionally serving others while managing their own personal crisis. It can be emotionally taxing and physically exhausting. In this training, Dr. Curt & Dr. Christie Brungardt, share their personal journey following the murder of their daughter (Jana) in July 2008. In the midst of their personal pain, they founded Jana’s Campaign, an organization which promotes gender and partner violence prevention. The Brungardts will candidly discuss ways professional/personal balance can occur during crisis, as well as inspire efforts make a difference.

-Intro to Jana’s Campaign
-Background of development of organization following daughter’s murder
-Motivation, yet practical discussion when victim service professions in the midst of own personal tragedies and must be present as “helper to others”
